SUS Sonaris Contact Mic - Sound Unseen Space
Sound Unseen Space SUS is a professional pickup manufacturer focused on capturing vibration-based sound that conventional microphones often miss.
We offer two versions of our contact microphone to meet different usage requirements: the Standard Edition and the Pro Edition.
Each version is clearly differentiated in terms of sonic character and application scenarios, corresponding to basic sound capture and high-demand professional use. Users can choose according to their equipment and working environment.
Designed for sound enthusiasts, musicians, sound artists, field recordists, nature documentary recordists, filmmakers, and audio professionals, they provide a reliable tool for exploring the rich acoustic world inside objects, structures, and environments.
1. Standard Edition
The Standard Edition is a basic contact microphone designed with a focus on directness and immediacy.
It clearly captures surface vibrations and structure-borne sound, making it well suited for recording obvious physical interactions such as tapping, rubbing, and movement.
In terms of sound character, the Standard Edition responds more directly in the mid-to-high frequency range, producing a clear and well-defined sonic contour. However, its overall frequency coverage is relatively limited, with weaker low-frequency response. On certain materials, high frequencies may appear more pronounced.
Due to its direct output characteristics, the Standard Edition places higher demands on downstream equipment. When paired with appropriate adapters or impedance-matching devices, a more balanced and controllable sound can be achieved.
Suitable applications:
-
Pronounced structural vibrations, impacts, and friction sounds
-
Experimental sound sampling
-
Entry-level contact recording
-
Use with adapters or external devices to expand tonal possibilities
It is best suited as a foundational, exploratory contact microphone.
Specifications:
• Neutrik 6.35 connector
• Cable length: 1.5m
2. Pro Edition
The Pro Edition is a comprehensively optimized version with enhanced control over sound and frequency response.
Compared to the Standard Edition, the Pro Edition offers a more complete frequency range, richer low-frequency content, and a more balanced, solid overall sound. Its ability to resolve subtle structural changes is significantly improved.
The Pro Edition more accurately reveals internal vibration layers within materials, providing greater dynamic range, detail, and sonic flexibility. In scenarios involving complex materials or very subtle vibrations, it delivers a more stable and usable signal, while offering greater headroom for post-processing.
This version is designed to be used with professional equipment that provides 48V phantom power, meeting the demands of high-quality recording and sound production.
Pro Edition Options
The Pro Edition is available in two mounting versions: Flat Mount and Threaded Mount.
Both versions use the same pickup element and share the same sound characteristics. The differences lie primarily in contact area, mounting method, and environmental resistance.
Flat Mount Version
The Flat Mount version provides a larger contact surface area, allowing for more stable coupling on flat materials and structures.
The mounting thread is positioned on the side of the housing, making it compatible with various accessories while maintaining a low-profile design.
Due to this side-mounted structure, its waterproof performance is slightly lower than the Threaded Mount version.
Suitable for:
- Wood surfaces
- Large flat structures
- Applications where maximum contact area is preferred
Threaded Mount Version
The Threaded Mount version features a mounting thread directly integrated into the contact surface structure.
This design offers improved sealing and better resistance to moisture and outdoor environments while maintaining secure accessory attachment.
Suitable for:
- Outdoor installations
- Long-term fixed mounting
- Applications requiring enhanced environmental protection
Included Accessories
Both versions include a selection of mounting accessories:
- Mounting pins
- Suction cup
- Magnet
- Adhesive pads
These accessories allow the microphone to be attached to a wide variety of materials and surfaces.
Both versions deliver identical sound performance. The choice between them is determined by mounting requirements, contact area, and environmental considerations rather than sonic differences.
Suitable applications:
-
Subtle structural vibrations and internal resonances
-
Detailed sound capture of wood, metal, and mechanical structures
-
Sound design, film foley, and game audio
Projects requiring high standards of tonal balance, dynamics, and frequency completeness
Specifications:
• Neutrik XLR connector
• Cable length: 1.5m
